While the distribution over wit acupuncture in Poland falls on the sixties of last century, it is more its origins we must go back to the seventeenth century. Polish pioneer of research on acupuncture was Michael Boym, a Jesuit priest and missionary. While in China from 1644 became interested in Europe is different from Chinese medicine, pharmacy and herbal remedies, rustic work of translating into Latin. He was also one of the first Western writers work on Chinese medicine, including Key works of Medicine, in which he described the right balance of Ying and Yang elements and the principle of five elements. He left many works unfinished manuscripts under which Western writers created their own works. In the works of Andreas and Wilhelm Cleyera This Rhyne been published anatomical plates made by Boym, with the selected acupuncture points and meridians. In the nineteenth century, acupuncture in Poland were interested primarily in universities. Antoni Baranowski thanks to his work on Moxy received his Ph.D. from the University of Vilnius. Also referred to acupuncture Domaszewski Joseph, who in his scientific work has described the history of acupuncture, needles characteristics, indications and contraindications, and possible postoperative complications. Both works were among the first scientific texts of acupuncture in Europe and worldwide. However, it is difficult to answer the question of what attitude to acupuncture have remained Polish doctors at that time. Probably acupuncture used a small group of doctors, primarily for the treatment of headaches, nerve pain and paralysis of limbs. Some sources say that during the cholera epidemic in Warsaw (during the Napoleonic Wars), unknown physician acupuncture treatments applied to the treatment of patients, but to no avail. Also director of the Evangelical Hospital in Warsaw, he Dworzaczek Ferdinand acupuncture as a good method for treating diseases of functional origin.
Rapid progress and modernization of Western medicine in the second half of the nineteenth century, drastically weakened interest in acupuncture and traditional Chinese methods that do not have adequate scientific basis. In Poland, returned to them again until the sixties of the last century. Despite great achievements and the continuous development of western medicine was not (and is) able to cope with the huge number of cases, therefore, began to return to unconventional resources, including acupuncture, which began to be used in clinics and hospitals. Enormous contribution to the development of acupuncture in Poland brought Dr. Zbigniew Garnuszewski. His initiative was the first in Poland and Acupuncture Clinic performed the first course of acupuncture. In 1987 he founded the Polish Society of Acupuncture. Dr. Boleslaw Rutkowski, was the first Polish doctor was sent to China to deepen their knowledge of acupuncture. His work on the application of Chinese methods of anesthesia, were the first scientific work on the acupuncture showing the scientific journals in Poland. Currently, acupuncture clinics are scattered all over Poland, in many centers is carried out studies on the Chinese methods, acupuncture is taught in universities, and Polish doctors are frequent guests at international conferences. Acupuncture in Poland is not just an oriental method of replacement, but more often it is chosen as the principal and agent to remove certain ailments. Sources: Z.
